It looks like we made it! Our first official edition of The Write Time on Substack and the 67th edition.

Things are getting a little freaky over here. Last week, I told you we were moving to Substack, and this week, Barry Manilow is here to welcome you to The Write Time.
We are loosening things up moving forward...because writing a book doesn't need to be a serious endeavor. I think that might be what is holding most of you back. You have put writing a book on a pedestal, something other people do with more credibility and authority.
But you have it all wrong. Credibility and authority are the byproducts of writing a book, not the prerequisites. Writing a book is as simple as saying YES!
YES, I am writing a book on:
A topic that I love
A topic that I know like the back of my hand
A topic I want to learn more about
A topic that I want to put a fun spin on.
Notice that I didn't mention your qualifications for writing a book. Writing a book is a lot like painting; it's an art form. Someone may critique your painting, but they can't take away your inspiration. If you approached your book like a painting or a craft project, would that take some pressure off the process? What if you approached writing your book as if you could not get it wrong, trusting all your tiny inspirational nudges along the way? Would that make it easier?
Writing a book is about trusting your gut and...then trusting your gut's next big idea and...trusting your gut's even bigger idea...as it gains confidence each time you flex your creative muscle.
Why is everyone holding their breath?Go ahead and take a deep breath; I haven't said anything about publishing that book to the world. We are just in the inspiration phase...which is where most people quit. Most will not even take the chance to explore their book, being the judge and jury before their inspiration sees the light of day.
I have an idea:Eventually, I plan to have quarterly live sessions for paid subscribers of The Write Time...but trusting my creative instincts...I am offering a complimentary live session (similar to what I will offer paid subscribers) next week to explore your first or next book. During the session...We will SAY YES, to a topic, a title and a concept for your book. We will also hold some space for you to write about it...or use the time to work on another writing topic.
